Cyber Addiction
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/internet_cybersex_addiction.htm
This article defines and categorises the internet addiction as follwoing:
Cybersex Addiction – compulsive use of Internet
pornography, adult chat rooms, or adult fantasy role-play sites impacting
negatively on real-life intimate relationships.
Cyber-Relationship Addiction – addiction to social
networking, chat rooms, and messaging to the point where virtual, online friends
become more important than real-life relationships with family and friends.
Net Compulsions – such as compulsive online gaming,
gambling, stock trading, or compulsive use of online auction sites such as eBay,
often resulting in financial and job-related problems.
Information Overload – compulsive web surfing or database
searching, leading to lower work productivity and less social interaction with
family and friends.
Computer Addiction – obsessive playing of off-line computer
games, such as Solitaire or Minesweeper, or obsessive computer programming.
It provides sypmtoms of inernet addicion in order to differentiate whether you are addicted or not.
Losing track of time online. Do you frequently find
yourself on the Internet longer than you intended? Does a few minutes turn in to
a few hours? Do you get irritated or cranky if your online time is interrupted?
Having trouble completing tasks at work or home. Do you
find laundry piling up and little food in the house for dinner because you’ve
been busy online? Perhaps you find yourself working late more often because you
can’t complete your work on time — then staying even longer when everyone else
has gone home so you can use the Internet freely.
Isolation from family and friends. Is your social life
suffering because of all the time you spend online? Are you neglecting your
family and friends? Do you feel like no one in your “real” life — even your
spouse — understands you like your online friends?
Feeling guilty or defensive about your Internet use. Are
you sick of your spouse nagging you to get off the computer and spend time
together? Do you hide your Internet use or lie to your boss and family about the
amount of time you spend on the computer and what you do while you're online?
Feeling a sense of euphoria while involved in Internet
activities. Do you use the Internet as an outlet when stressed, sad, or
for sexual gratification or excitement? Have you tried to limit your Internet
time but failed?
Finally, it concludes by providing a treatment for those who think they are addicted to the internet.
Encourage other interests and social activities. Get your
child out from behind the computer screen. Expose kids to other hobbies and
activities, such as team sports, Scouts, and afterschool clubs.
Monitor computer use and set clear limits. Restrict the use
of computers, iPads, or smart phones to a common area of the house where you can
keep an eye on your child's online activity, and limit time online. This will be
most effective if you as parents follow suit. If you can’t stay offline, chances
are your children won’t either.
Talk to your child about underlying issues. Compulsive
computer use can be the sign of deeper problems. Is your child having problems
fitting in? Has there been a recent major change, like a move or divorce, which
is causing stress?
Get help. Teenagers often rebel against their parents but
if they hear the same information from a different authority figure, they may be
more inclined to listen. Try a sports coach, doctor, or respected family friend.
Don’t be afraid to seek professional counseling if you are concerned about your
child.

Internet Addiction leading to Depression
Not only internet addiction is effecting households but as indiciduals it results in depression. This is portrayed through the article where it states that via isolation between humans but only inertacting with the non physical communication, it brought forth the depression.
Prior research has utilized the Zung Depression Inventory (ZDI) and found that moderate to severe rates of depression coexist with pathological Internet use.1 Although the ZDI was utilized for its expediency with on-line administration, its limitations include poor normative data and less frequent clinical use. Therefore, this study utilized the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), which has more accurate norms and frequent usage among dual diagnostic patient populations. An on-line survey administered on a World Wide Web site utilized the BDI as part of a larger study. A total of 312 surveys was collected with 259 valid profiles from addicted users, which again supported significant levels of depression to be associated with pathological Internet use. This article discusses how a treatment protocol should emphasis the primary psychiatric condition if related to a subsequent impulse control problem such as pathological Internet use. Effective management of psychiatric symptoms may indirectly correct pathological Internet use.

Digital Age overload: ‘Internet addiction’ to be classified as mental illness
Think twice the next time you play a videogame or surf the Net: ‘Internet-use disorder’ is set to be added to the list of mental illnesses in the worldwide psychiatric manual. Kids are identified as being especially at risk.
The international mental health encyclopedia known as the ‘Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders’ (DSM-IV) will include Internet-use disorder as a condition “recommended for further study” in its forthcoming May 2013 edition.
Psychologists believe that Internet addiction should be categorized like other addiction disorders as it has similar symptoms, including emotional shutdown, lack of concentration and withdrawal.
Parents have noted their children becoming angry and violent when their electronic gadgets are taken away from them, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. In other instances, kids preferred to play a videogame over eating or social interaction.

Cocaine=Internet Addiction
There has been a release of study where internet addiction has a similar effect on human brains as cocains.
Cocaine belongs to a group of drugs known as "stimulants". Stimulants speed up the messages going between the brain and the body.
Cocaine is extracted from leaves of the coca bush (Erythroxylum coca), which is native to South America. The coca leaf extract is then processed to create cocaine hydrochloride, freebase and crack.
The leaves of the coca bush have long been chewed and brewed into tea by indigenous people in South America for its stimulant and appetite suppressant properties.
To see this, it is a dangerous and harmful drug which inevitably makes internet addiction becoming dangereous and harmful as well.
Hence it is important for parents to take care of their children and making sure their doesnt fall into the trap of internet addiction.
